I bought a Redmi Note 6 Pro last year, and it’s one of the best smartphones I have owned. The design is sleek, and in black (my favourite colour). The camera is great for a phone that costs under Rs 15,000. In fact, the entire Note series of Redmi goes around that price tag, and provides the experience of a premium Rs 40,000+ smartphone. High quality packed in a modestly-priced smartphone is what made the Xiaomi Redmi Note smartphone series cross the 100-million shipment milestone.

Surprisingly, these smartphones have been developed by a Chinese company. Xiaomi India’s Managing Director Manu Kumar celebrated the milestone on Twitter with his tweet: “100 MILLION #RedmiNote users! Mi fans, happy to share: we have crossed #100Million mark for our #Redmi Note series globally! I thank each one of you for this MEGA milestone! Another Redmi Note BEAST launching tomorrow. RT if excited.”

The very first model of the series was Redmi Note, launched in March 2014 to take over the budget phone market. It was an instant hit in India and China due to its cut-rate price tag. Currently, the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro. Both the phones were launched in China in August and debuted in the Indian market on October 16. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has become popular because of its Helio G90T SoC processor that focuses on graphic-heavy applications.

Redmi Note 8 Pro also has a quad-camera with a 64-megapixel main sensor 20-megapixel front sensor, powered by a 4,500mAh battery. This smartphone comes in three variations, the 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM model priced at Rs 14,999, the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant that costs Rs 15,999, and the topmost tier of 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM smartphone.
