The evolution of smartphones over the years has led to the development of some very interesting models. A lot of these left a mark in the mobile phone market due to their peculiar features. Let me bring to you the top 4 yesteryear mobile phones that became extremely popular and are still recalled fondly. 

Nokia 8110

“Hello Neo, do you know who this is?”, is the line that introduced us to the enigmatic character of Morpheus and Neo, played by Lawrence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves in Matrix respectively. It also popularized Nokia 8110, a sleek noir phone that complemented sunglasses on black suits and stylish cassocks. Nokia 8110 was launched in 1996, and was one of the first phones that featured automatic call answering function when its slider was opened.    

Nokia 3310

This god-tier phone is often memed for its durability. It’s often photoshopped over Thor’s hammer (called Mjolnir) to show how hard it can hit if you, if you fling it on a friend’s head. I’ve tried that when I owned this phone, and yes, it did hurt him bad. The second most popular feature of Nokia 3310 is ‘Space Impact’, a game it excelled at.  

Motorola RAZR V3 

The flip phone that everyone dreamt of having when they were stuck with a Nokia. Motorola RAZR V3 – launched in the third quarter of 2004 – managed to make me instantly popular in high school. The brand announced its presence in India in style with this flip phone. It was highly sought-after for the thin build, VGA camera, and a web browser. . 

Samsung Galaxy S II

Samsung Galaxy S II made Android phones popular among the common people. It started off with Android Gingerbread (2.3) and the last update on this phone powered it with Jellybean (4.1.2). Launched in 2011, 40.2 million units of this smartphone were sold globally. It boasted of the best cameras at that time, one on the front and the other at the rear, 8 MP and 2 MP respectively.  

iPhone 3G

iPhone was (and still is) considered a luxury very few people could afford, following its Indian release in August, 2008. iPhone 3GS was the first Apple iPhone in India, and had a TFT capacitive touchscreen. It displayed amazing images and smooth typesettings using 16M colors. Apple globally sold the model over 1 million units within the first week.
