Last week, I had written about CEIR, the Department of Telecommunication’s portal, launched to help block a lost mobile phone and later trace it. Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) has been made in association with the Center for Development Telematics (CDOT).
CEIR uses the IMEI number to find your phone. It collects data from telecom operators across the nation, rendering the need of an active internet connection unnecessary.
The process of recovering the lost/stolen phone using IMEI number is easy. You just have to follow the following steps.
Step 1
Before you put in a request on the CEIR website, you’ll have to register a complaint of the stolen/lost phone at your nearest police station. You can also register the same on the Delhi Police website.
Step 2
Visit the CEIR website and select the option ‘Block Stolen/Lost Mobile’ to block your phone. If you have found your phone, select ‘Un-block Lost Mobile’.
Step 3
On selecting ‘Block Stolen/Lost Mobile’, the site will redirect you to an online form titled ‘Request for Blocking Lost/ Stolen Mobile Phone’. Enter the required details, such as the IMEI number, mobile number, device brand, location where lost/stolen, date of losing the mobile phone, owner’s name, address, and an identity proof. The page will send you an OTP on your registered mobile to finalize the complaint.
Step 4
You will receive a request ID. This can be used to track the status of your mobile phone recovery with the option ‘Check Request Status’.
Step 5
The ‘Un-Block Found Mobile‘ can finally be selected when the police hands you your mobile phone back. Just enter the request ID and your mobile number, then click on ‘Submit’.
Recovering your lost/stolen mobile phone has never been easier. You can thank the Department of Telecommunication for this!
