I am not a die-hard fan of Vivo, yet sometimes it manages to surprise me with its innovative designs. This time, however, I was let down because Vivo decided to make the old ‘Ctrl+C’ and ‘Ctrl+V’ move on its new phone. The Vivo V17 series retains the basic design of Vivo V15, save for a dual popup selfie camera in V17 Pro. Vivo could have done a better job designing the V17 series. Forget a reimagined model, curved edges could have made a significant difference.
In other avenues, Vivo v17 fairs better. The tagline of Vivo V17 is ‘Clear as Real’, which I think is aptly coined since the phone boasts a 16.36cm (6.44 inch) FHD+ display. It provides a 20:9 aspect ratio, giving a 1080 x 2400-pixel on a 409-414 PPI screen. The 91.38% screen-to-body ratio is a defining characteristic of the phone that promises a great gaming and movie experience.
Coming to the camera, Vivo V17 and Vivo V17 Pro have AI-powered 48 MP cameras. In addition to that, there’s an 8MP super wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP bokeh camera lined up at the back of the phone.
The most valued aspect of Vivo V17’s camera is the Super Night Mode. It brandishes advanced noise reduction capabilities and brings to you perfect nighttime and low-light shots. It’s platformed by frame-merging technology and Vivo’s special portrait algorithm.
Both Vivo V17 and V17 Pro are available with 8 GBs of RAM. The main difference is that V17 Pro provides 4K recording with a popup 32 MP f/2 camera, complemented with a flash.
The series comes strengthened with Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 AIE octa-core processor. It provides seamless operation with extremely low battery usage. The phones are able to ‘Dual-Engine Fast Charge’ the phone’s 4,500mAh battery.
I think that this phone could have done better, but with the modest price tag ranging from Rs 25K to Rs 27K, it’s justifiable. Stay tuned for more smartphone reviews.
