I had no idea CAT (which is short for Caterpillar) developed smartphones too. I last saw the logo of this company on a forklift in Indira Gandhi International Airport. Their latest phone, S52, is a military-grade device with a pocket-friendly design and mainstream features. CAT has certainly bulked up its presence in the smartphone market with this phone, after releasing B35, S41, and S31 models.
According to CAT’s website, S52 is the thinnest smartphone they have developed with the width being 9.69mm. Moreover, the phone weighs only 210g. The company says it’s a “unique blend of our thinnest and sleekest ever design whilst still being tough.”
The phone’s durability rating stands at IP68 , which means it can withstand sand, dust, and dirt along with an underwater submersion of up to 1.5m. The phone is thermal shock resistant, handling temperature differences between -30°C and 65°C. The S52 is drop-resistant too!
S52 has a modest battery capacity of 3100 mAH that offers a stand-by time of 28 days and a talk time of 29 hours on 3G. The display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6, featuring a High Definition (1440X720) view. S52’s camera is 12 MP strong, which is slightly short by today’s standards. All of these are powered by a Mediatek Helio P35 Octacore 2.3GHz processor. CAT S52 will be available in the smartphone market from November 12, 2019.
The only ‘drawback’ worth mentioning is its thickness and weight. A lot of people prefer ultra-slim mobile phones that weigh like a feather. In my opinion, those two features contribute to easy phone snatching and pickpocketing. I experienced it once when a pick pocketer almost took out my phone till I felt a tug on the earphones.
So, if you want a durable smartphone with a sleek design, do check out CAT S52.
